Lake Conroe RV Resort Review

Lake Conroe RV Resort Review

Lake Conroe RV Resort Overview

We really enjoyed our time at Lake Conroe RV Resort. It was our first stay at a Thousand Trails park and had plenty of amenities to keep our kids busy. Being located in Lake Conroe give you good access to shopping for any needs you’re going to have during the stay.

The park can get pretty crowded, so if you like meeting new people this is your place. Just know that you may have to settle on whatever sites are available.

Thousand Trails

First lets get the benefits of Thousand Trails out of the way, as these benefits wouldn’t be exclusive to Lake Conroe RV Resort. The price was unbeatable as the cost per night comes out to around $10 per night. These prices would obviously go up if you weren’t a member of Thousand Trails.

There is an additional charge of $3 per night if you want a 50 amp site, which we did. For us the costs per night were still low, but if you aren’t a Thousand Trails member and want a 50 amp site, this is something to consider when booking your stay.

Features and Amenities

If you are looking for some privacy and space, you won’t find it at Lake Conroe RV Resort. The park is a highly rated park and tends to stay crowded. Not only can it be crowded but the sites are close together with little standing between your camper and your neighbors. If you enjoy the community aspect then this may actually be a benefit as you will have ample opportunities to meet new people.

Amenities at Lake Conroe have been second to none for our family so far. Between a nice play ground, pool, games and the lake itself, you will have plenty to experience during your stay. We played pickle ball, horse shoes, mini golf, swam in the pool and even took our inflatable kayak out on the lake.

The onsite laundry mat was nice, easily accessible and presented no issues. They also have a dog park (although it is small) that you can let your dog stretch their legs. Overall if you were going to Lake Conroe RV Resort and staying onsite most of the time, you will have plenty to experience.

Sites

Lake Conroe RV Resort has both pull through and back in sites. The park is first come first serve, so which type of site you get is largely based on what is available. Additionally the 50 amp sites are popular and can be hard to find. We were able to find 50 amp sites but it was limiting.

Most sites are gravel and vary in their length. Our 42ft fifth wheel always presents challenges but we found that many sites were not level and required a large amount of block under the leveling arms. So much so that we actually had to run to Lowes and build new blocks for our camper.

Costs

Costs for us were minimal because of our Thousand Trails membership. We did have to pay an additional fee for the 50 amp site but even then the costs were minimal. If you are not a thousand trails member this is something to consider before booking.

We also did a lot of laundry at this RV park. The costs were about what you would expect per load, but as we’ve learned since leaving, not all parks have good laundry machines. At Lake Conroe we didn’t have to spend additional money trying to dry our clothes.

Internet

We have multiple internet providers and cell phone plans, so we were able to have internet access pretty easily during our stay. We used both our T-Mobile and AT&T internets while at the site. I had no issues working and the kids were able to play games.

As previously mentioned the park was consistently packed and as a result there were times where internet speeds would start to slow down. The slower times generally were in the late afternoons when everyone else was also on the internet.

Location

The location seems to be a point of contention when looking up reviews on Lake Conroe. On one hand it is in a great location to drive to Houston and other local areas to see attractions, eat and shop. However this also means the park is less secluded and isn’t as nature heavy as some other parks you may stay at.

Our family enjoyed the location and it’s accessibility to other areas. We travelled to Houston for a Houston Dynamo game, the zoo, and eating. Lake Conroe itself has a lot of shopping and places to eat. For our family experiencing our first stay in Texas, the location was a nice factor for us.

Side Note – Need Tires?

One benefit of Lake Conroe was a local Fed Ex office and a Discount Tire. Living in an RV Full Time we don’t have the luxury of going home and taking care of maintenance. We were able to order tires, have them shipped to Fed Ex, and then take those to Discount Tire and have them replaced. If you are looking at replacing your tires then Lake Conroe may be a good park to weave that into your plans.

What We Didn’t Like

We enjoyed our time at Lake Conroe RV & Camping Resort but it wasn’t all ideal. Here are some of the things that we wish were better.

First Come First Serve

Like with all Thousand Trails parks, the sites are first come first serve. We haven’t had a lot of issues with this method but with the crowds at Lake Conroe it was definitely a challenge finding a good site that was also a 50 amp hookup. You may have to sacrifice the quality of site you like.

Get Your Levelers Ready

We changed sites a few days into our stay at Lake Conroe and there were issues getting our rig leveled. Our camper is a 42 foot Coachmen Chapparal so it presents its own issues when using smaller sites. However we saw many other campers with tires off the ground and plenty of blocks stacked under leveling arms.

No Nature

Admittedly this is a personal preference for our family but we like trails and hiking. Lake Conroe has the lake which was great but hiking was limited in the area. The nature or lake thereof wasn’t enough to deter us from coming back to Lake Conroe but we did miss the woods.
