Cajun Palms RV Resort – Overview
We set off in October to begin our Full Time RV journey and Cajun Palms RV Resort was the first stop on our trip. It was close to home and had good reviews on any websites we reviewed. Having stayed a full week in a time that was not heavy in traffic, it was a really relaxing week.
Cajun Palms RV Resort was very clean, had a great swimming area and is tied to a nearby Dinosaur experience called Prehistoric Park, which our kids really enjoyed. They had plenty of sites and all were well kept and clean.
Features and Amenities
Cajun Palms RV Resort has a lot of attractive features. As a family of 5 we are always looking to find parks that have something for our kids to do. Going to events and other attractions can become expensive, so having onsite amenities is critical. In this regard Cajun Palms does not disappoint.
Having multiple pools and water slides onsite and free of charge is about as good as it gets. Add to that the play ground and a couple of fishing ponds and your kids should be all set at this park.
Sites
They have more than enough sites in this massive RV park. We had no issues booking a site or finding on that had a 50amp hookup for our fifth wheel camper. The sites are well kept and have concrete pads that seemed pretty level at least in our area. With both pull through and back in sites you should be able to easily find a site for you.
The only issue we found is that the resort is quite large, so the pool area is quite the hike. Fortunately they have plenty of parking around the pool, that we were able to use. We stayed in the 300 sites in the East section of the resort, which is the furthest section away from the pool area.
Costs
Cajun Palms RV Resort is on the more expensive side of what we typically try to book. At around $60 per night it was expensive but still not an outrageous price for what you get. There were no additional charges for 50 amp hook ups.
Unfortunately we weren’t able to use any membership discounts at this park.
Internet
We homeschool our kids, I work fully remote and we enjoy playing games, so internet is important for our family. Typically we do a good bit of research on the internet at parks before we book them and this park was no different.
Based on our research the park was good for those with T-Mobile internet, which we have. During our stay, the park was primarily vacant, which is great for internet speeds. We experienced no issues and were able to work, do school and play games using our T-Mobile internet.
Location
Cajun Palms RV Resort is located in Breaux Bridge, LA, which is just to the east of Lafayette, LA and close to Baton Rouge, LA. Not only is it near good locations but it is the crawfish capital of the world. If you want to try crawfish and to get some from the people who have perfected it, then you will be in the right place.
Paid Family Fun
Obviously the more free entertainment we get the better but they do have some options close to the site that you can pay to go to. They have Cajun Fast Track, where you can do mini golf, go karts, bumper cars and arcade. We unfortunately did not get to make it to the Cajun Fast Track but we did go to the Prehistoric Park.
Prehistoric Park is a walk through Dinosaur park. The park is primarily fiber glass dinosaurs that are placed in the woods along a paved path. Personally Sara and I were not overly impressed, especially for the price, but our kids (10, 7 and 1 year olds) all really enjoyed it and didn’t seem bothered by the paved paths and roughly painted dinosaurs.
During our stay we did take a day to go to Baton Rouge, LA. We went to the USS Kidd Veterans Museum, which was fantastic. We toured the battleship and much of the ship is restored and still functioning. If you have little kids then you may do a lot of carrying but for older kids it’s a great experience.
While in Baton Rouge we visited the Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center. Our family enjoys the outdoors and parks, so having the opportunity to visit one in the middle of a city was exciting. Honestly the nature trails blew us away, but maybe not in the best way for everyone.
In our short hike on their nature trail, we saw more snakes than I’ve seen at one time in my life. They were crossing the board walk, swimming underneath it and often in small groups. If you’re looking for wildlife it’s incredible, if you hate snakes, it will be a nightmare.
What We Didn’t Like
While we enjoyed our time at Cajun Palms RV Resort it wasn’t all great. There were a number of things that could have been better.
It’s Pricey
We try to stay at places that have reasonable rates and here we ended up paying around $60/night. While it’s not outrageous it was one of the cheaper sites, and we were there during a slow part of the season.
Margaritaville Coming Soon
We just so happened to stay on one of the final weeks before they began their transition to becoming a Margaritaville affiliate site. As a result some of the slides and bars near the pool area were closed.
By the time you are reading this, this may be irrelevant to your trip, but for us it was a bit of a bummer, although understandable.
Pet Friendly?
Having two dogs can often present it’s issues and Cajun Palms RV Resort wasn’t ideal for our pets. The individual sites had very small grass areas and there was no designated pet areas. We had issues giving the dogs enough space to stretch their legs or use the bathroom.
Final Thoughts
We really enjoyed our time at Cajun Palms RV Resort. Regardless of the minor things we found frustrating, it was a great stay. With the amount of onsite amenities and the attractions in driving distance it was a great place to stay.
This would definitely be a park that we would recommend to you if you’re looking for a park in south Louisiana. Additionally at some point in 2023 they will be fully integrated into the Margaritaville system, and likely would have additional improvements at that time.
